A striking pair of Italian mid-century lounge chairs, circa 1950s, in the sculptural tradition of postwar Italian design. Each chair is built around an expressive maple frame with sinuous, Y-shaped side arms terminating in distinctive bulbous finials — a hallmark of the period's most sophisticated seating design. The four tapered legs splay outward with an almost organic confidence, each capped in brass, giving the chairs a light, grounded quality.
The fully upholstered shell wraps in a deep barrel/tulip form — a wide, sweeping backrest that cradles the sitter and draws the eye from every angle. The original mint green woven fabric reads beautifully against the warm maple tone of the frames. Loose seat cushions provide comfort without compromising the sculptural silhouette.
The frames show wear consistent with age and use; the wood will be touched up prior to sale. Upholstery is original vintage fabric in good vintage condition. Price is for the pair and includes upholstery as shown.
