A masterwork of Danish mid-century office design, this executive desk was designed by Svend Aage Madsen and produced by Sigurd Hansens Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1960s. The broad floating teak top features softly rounded boomerang-shaped edges that extend gracefully beyond the twin pedestals, showcasing a rich, book-matched grain of exceptional warmth and character.
The left pedestal houses a shallow drawer above a full-depth filing drawer — sized for hanging files and ideal for an active working office. The right pedestal offers three drawers, with the middle drawer featuring a fall-front panel that drops open on brass hinges to reveal a pull-out teak writing extension, historically used as a typewriter shelf and equally useful as extra desk surface today. All drawer fronts are fitted with Madsen’s signature sculpted organic teak pulls — gently curved and tactile, a hallmark of his refined approach to form. Drawer interiors show excellent dovetail joinery throughout with clean light wood construction.
The fully finished rear is designed to be seen from all sides: an open bookcase section with one fixed shelf sits alongside a sliding teak panel, making this desk as handsome freestanding in a room as it is against a wall.
Condition Notes
A minor chip is present at the lower rear corner of the case, as shown in the photographs. It is not visible from the front or sides during normal use.
