Exceptional pair of Danish Modern reclining lounge chairs with matching ottomans by J.M. Birking & Co. A/S of Copenhagen, Denmark, circa 1970.
Crafted from richly grained rosewood, each chair features a sculptural exposed frame, slatted back, padded leather armrests, and deeply tufted brown leather cushions. The original leather has developed a beautiful, warm patina over decades of use, with natural tonal variation, creasing, and character that complement the dark rosewood frames beautifully.
Both chairs feature an adjustable reclining mechanism operated by a discreet side control, allowing the backrest to recline smoothly for an exceptionally comfortable seating position. The exposed rear construction showcases the chair’s distinctive suspension system and Scandinavian craftsmanship.
The matching rosewood ottomans feature coordinating button-tufted leather cushions and complete the set.
The chairs retain their J.M. Birking & Co. A/S, Copenhagen, Denmark maker markings.
A wonderful example of late mid-century Danish design, combining substantial comfort with refined Scandinavian craftsmanship. The pair would make an impressive addition to a living room, library, office, or reading area.
